The prevalence of myopia has rapidly increased
over the last 30 years and is now a major health concern.

There are approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide with myopia – more than 25% of the global population. By 2020, it is said that an additional 1 billion people may develop this vision condition, including at the age of 6 when children can begin the development process.

With myopia growing at an alarming rate, Euclid has been the leader in myopia management for over twenty years. Euclid manufactures Ortho-K product, Emerald – a FDA approved, safe, and reversible and correct vision overnight by gently re-shaping the cornea. Patients remove Emerald in the morning and go throughout the day without any other vision correction.

It is Euclid’s mission to be the world’s leading prescribed product for managing myopia by providing your patients with crisp, clear vision without the typical choices of glasses, daytime contact lenses, or LASIK surgery. Grow your practice while exciting your patients with a proven vision correction option that can enhance their life!

THE IDEAL PATIENT:
  • Moderate myopia (up to -5 D) and/or astigmatism (up to 1.5 D)
  • Normal and healthy eyes
  • Good hygiene
  • Desire for great vision without glasses and conventional contact lenses
  • Almost any age, compliant and motivated
  • Has a good understanding of expectations
THE MORE CHALLENGING PATIENT:
  • More cylinder than refractive error
  • Poor sleep habits – procedure requires a minimum of 6 consecutive hours to be consistently effective
  • Poor hygiene – lenses must be cleaned regularly to avoid corneal complications and changes to the lens surface that will affect performance
  • Myopia in excess of approved range may result in only partial correction
  • High corneal cylinder may result in residual cylinder and poor centration
  • Patients with clinically dry eye may need additional treatment prior to prescribing lenses

DESIGN & PROCEDURE

The Emerald Ortho-K procedure has a unique, empirically fit lens design that is made to order for each patient. There is no trial lenses required and no expensive fitting set to purchase with hassle of maintaining.

Emerald delivers consistent, predictable results, time after time. The Emerald design has been used successfully on over half a million eyes. Since overnight Ortho-K lenses are Class III medical devices that require a reference to a PMA to be legally compliant, you and your patients can rest easy knowing Emerald is FDA approved. Emerald offers a remarkable 85% first fit* and higher success rate and significantly reduced chair time when fitting patients in the approved range.

Emerald takes the guesswork out of Ortho-K — and there is no simpler fitting procedure. Only Rx, Keratometry and HVID are needed to achieve success; no trial lenses or expensive fitting sets are required. It’s quick and simple. Each lens is custom designed to fit the individual patient’s cornea.

Unlike ‘inventory’ lens designs that provide a limited parameter range, Emerald provides complete flexibility on all parameters. This will allow you to get the best possible fit on each cornea.

Emerald lenses are made of quality, high Dk stable materials that offer stability, comfort and have been especially approved for overnight wear.
By taking the ‘trial lens’ out of the fitting process, Emerald saves you time and money—no trial set or inventory to purchase and hassle of maintaining! Our experienced consultants are ready to guide you through your first fittings – and are committed to your success.

Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

Emerald is an FDA approved, unique gas permeable contact lens design that provides easy vision correction by gently reshaping the cornea overnight while the patient sleeps. Emerald is safe, reversible, and have been successfully fit on over a million eyes around the globe.
Emerald is intended for individuals from children to adults with low to moderate myopia (up to -5 diopters) and moderate astigmatism (1.50 diopters or less).
Only Rx, K readings and HVID are needed to fit Emerald. Corneal topography images should be taken at the initial screening and at all subsequent visits to monitor the performance of the lens over time.
As long as the patient wears his/her lenses regularly, the patient will continue to enjoy visual freedom all day long. If he/she stops wearing his/her lenses, his/her lens-free vision will return to its pre-treatment levels.
Persons who exhibit any of the following conditions:
• Inflammation or infection of the eye
• Any eye disease, injury, or abnormality that affects the cornea or surrounding tissue
• Any systemic disease that may affect the eye or be worsened by wearing contact lenses
• Allergic reactions of eye which may be caused or exaggerated by wearing contact lenses or use of contact lens solutions
• Eyes that are red or irritated, or suffer severe dryness
Most patients have rapid improvement in the first few days of treatment and have achieved optimum vision within about 1 month.
Since Emerald is designed with the appropriate power correction, the patient may re-insert the lenses if his/her vision begins to fade late in the day. Early in the treatment period, you may wish to provide a pair of disposable soft lenses to compensate for any uncorrected myopia.

EMERALD SUCCESS

  • “The Emerald lens is my go to lens for myopia control. Empirical fitting gives me a lens I can dispense and provides excellent results majority of the time. When I need help, the Euclid consultation staff is excellent.”

    Dr. Janice Jurkas, Chicago, IL

  • “I’ve been Emerald certified since my residency.  By being able to order lenses for my patients empirically, I save chair time and save my patients some time as well.  The first-ordered lenses are most often able to be dispensed for patient trial after the first visit.  The consultation team is awesome and makes the follow-up process so streamlined.  They are able to accurately interpret what I’m observing about the lenses and make changes that improve the patient’s outcomes.  I’m always happy to offer my patients Emerald as an alternative to glasses or daily contact lens wear.”

    Dr. Natalie Corey, Westfield, IN

  • For over 15 years, I have found both the Emerald Ortho-K procedure the easiest to work with. My personal success rate mirrors that of the SMART study in that over 85% of my patient’s programs are fit with the first pair.  In fact, my very first patient from April 2000 is still on the program.

    Dr. Robert Gerowitz, Palatine, IL

  • I’ve had patients with good stability in that range for up to 10 years, as long as I’ve been actively doing Ortho-K. My son is a perfect example. He was -1.00 OU in 2007 when he started with Emerald lenses. He’s now in his 2nd year of Optometry school and had to come out of his Ortho-K lenses and normalize his cornea for his contact lens fitting lab. His refraction is still at -1.00 10 years later.

    Dr. Albert Chun, Torrance, CA

  • “Fitting Euclid lenses empirically helps me save chair time while providing my patients with first-lens success in majority of cases. The process is very straightforward, and the referrals that these happy patients generate have significantly grown the myopia control portion of my practice.”

    Dr. Stephanie Fromstein, Chicago, IL

Discuss All Options To Correct Myopia

You have just completed your comprehensive exam of a new myopic patient. When making your recommendations, you owe your patient the benefit of knowing all of his or her options. For adults, you should certainly discuss refractive surgery in addition to traditional correction. For children and adults, options for correcting myopia include glasses or traditional contact lenses, but remember to also present orthokeratology (Ortho-K ).
